Sidewalk and Boardwalk
As we approach the centennial of the burning of our previous church building, it is interesting to note the “business as usual” reports in the Official Board minutes. On June 6, 1905, a committee was “authorized to have cement walk constructed on Dubuque west of the church as ordered by City Council, and the board walk south of the church and around the parsonage to be repaired.” The Ladies Aid informed the Board that the Society would pay for the cement walk. New hitching posts were ordered installed the previous year, and after discussion about the need for a new church building, an estimate of $50,000 was presented April 2, 1906. On Sunday, April 22, 1906, the church burned to the ground.
