The ministries at FUMC

The “incarnational ministry” of First United Methodist Church is given flesh and bone through the active leadership and dedicated participation of many, many lay members and friends of FUMC, equipped and under-girded for their acts of service by an equally dedicated and creative church staff. We are a people who are living, growing and being stretched by our faith even as we seek to join with God in making a difference in the life of our church, our community and the world.

Following the lead of the 2000 Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, FUMC has creatively re-structured its administrative and program structure to better respond to the needs of a fast-paced and ever-changing world. In place of Work Areas and Councils, FUMC has formed Ministry Action Groups and Ministry Action Teams to take the lead in organizing the ministries of the church. Two dynamics are central to this mission: embracing the ministry of the laity, and embracing flexibility and innovation.

In keeping with Wesleyan heritage, adults are encouraged to find ways to hold one another accountable around the disciplines of study, fellowship, outreach, and prayer. In addition, an “Adult Discipleship Academy” study plan is available to help you set goals and track progress in growth as a disciple. Contact Rev. Patte Henderson to join or for more information.
