Ways to get involved at FUMC
First United Methodist Church has adopted a "Belong before you join philosophy." In addition to the many opportunities described in the "our ministries" section, there are other means for fellowship, including:
Affinity groups: An Affinity Group is a group of people who collectively pursue a
common interest. And, at First United Methodist Church, there are several
such groups covering a variety of interests and new groups are developed continuously. Additional information ![]()
United Methodist Men: The United Methodist Men meet for fellowship, good works and good conversation (and delicious breakfasts). We have guest speakers that are enlightening or thoughtful, and sometimes both. We normally meet in
Fellowship Hall at 7:30 am on the first Saturday of each month, and usually have you back home with the family by shortly after 9. We sponsor during the year two golf outings that include the family during the season, a spring all-church banquet, and a fall pancake breakfast that is as much fun as it is delicious. We find time during the year for volunteer work towards various projects as needed
occasionally. Please come join us.

United Methodist Women: United Methodist Women is open to all women of FUMC. Mission is our purpose, but fellowship keeps us together. Besides excellent programs, we have a very active Dorcas Group and a Prayer & Squares Quilt Ministry.
Teen Circle: First United Methodist Church’s UMW started a new Teen Circle for Iowa City area Junior and Senior High School girls! This new fellowship and service group meets one Saturday a month at First United Methodist Church having meaningful discussions on hot topics for teen girls. The girls work on community projects like making blankets for the homeless, delivering food to shut-in members, making gift bags for senior living residences, learning to knit baby caps for new-born's and much more!
The Teen Circle is a complement to the youth programs
at local churches and is intended to be a place where girls
can ask faith questions, learn new skills, discuss life issues
and experience spiritual growth through mission and service
to the community. It is not required that participants be
United Methodist, so come and bring a friend!

for Girls, please call teen coordinator: Shelby Craig (354-8877)
