Outreach Ministries at First United Methodist Church

Global Missions Team: This Ministry Action Team provides information about the missional needs of other countries. The team also supports Self-Help International, Church World Service, Personal Energy Transportation (P.E.T.) vehicles, Heifer International through the Hope Mission Market which is held each December. This market is an opportunity to give alternative gifts at Christmas time. These gifts, given in the name of the person for whom the gift is purchased, give a gift of hope to those in need. Free Lunch Team: Prepares and serves a free lunch at the Wesley Center on the fourth Tuesday of the month. This is part of the larger Free Lunch Program which has been providing free noon time meals for over 20 years.

Habitat for Humanity Team: Working with the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity organization this team raises funds and recruits volunteers from our congregation to help with the building low cost, reliable housing for low-come families. For moe information, contact Jan Down.

Food Bank Collections Team: Collect food donations from the Food Donation barrels in our church and takes the food to the Crisis Center for distribution. For more information, contact Kim Schroeder.

Appalachia Service Project (ASP) Team: Each summer this team travels to the central Appalachian Mountains to work on making homes “warmer, drier and safer” as part of the larger Appalachia Service Project. During the rest of the year, the team raises funds to support the next year's work by sponsoring a once a month smorgasbord. For more information, contact Mike Hodge.

Thanksgiving Ingathering Team: On the first Saturday in November, Iowa United Methodists gather at different locations across the state to contribution funds and materials to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), Iowa Nigeria Project, Heifer International, Self Help International, Church World Service and the PET (Personal Energy Transportation). The First United Methodist Ingathering Team works to coordinate our contributions to this project. For more information, contact Sandy Willingham.

Recycling Team: Collects recycled material from our recycling boxes in the church and takes the material to the recycling center. For more information, contact Sue Mullins.

CROP Walk Team: Organizes and recruits congregation members to participate in the annual Johnson County CROP Walk which raises awareness and funds to address the issue of hunger in our community. For more information, contact Steve Marner or Dave Leslie.
